Star Maker is a science fiction novel by Olaf Stapledon, published in 1937. The book tackles philosophical themes such as the essence of life, of birth, decay and death, and the relationship between creation and creator. 

A pervading theme is that of progressive unity within and between different civilizations. Some of the elements and themes briefly discussed prefigure later fiction concerning genetic engineering and alien life forms. Arthur C. Clarke considered Star Maker to be one of the finest works of science fiction ever written.

A single human narrator from England is transported out of his body via unexplained means. He realizes he is able to explore space and other planets. 

After exploring a civilization on another planet in our galaxy at a level of development similar to our own that existed millions of years ago thousands of light years from Earth (the “Other Earth”) in some detail, his mind merges with that of one of its inhabitants, and as they travel together, they are joined by still more minds or group-minds.

This
artwork is inspired by a the Hueco Tanks State Park &#38;amp;
Historic Site. My experience
navigating this truly unique and ancient landscape felt akin to being
 marooned on a distant planet while firmly situated in an
earthbound site of incredible historical significance. This design reinforces this familiar yet unfamiliar experience through outsized,
oddly-scaled and playfully rendered imagery.


The
granite-like rocky hills, water-holding depressions, indigenous plant species
such as the abundant creosote bushes, prickly pear cacti, sotol, lechuguilla
agave, and ocotillo, as well as the thousands of years old native pictographs
serve as source material for this bright, vibrant and abstracted landscape
collage.


 My design
process began by identifying the aforementioned vegetation, local ecology, and
historical artifacts and then distilling them into distinctive yet simplified
isometric illustrations. These illustrations were then scaled, repositioned,
and collaged into a monumental landscape mural and facade treatment for the
water park’s entrance pavilion.


 Finally,
the title "desert in bloom" refers not so much as to the flowering of
the indigenous plant life, which hadn't yet blossomed at the time of my visit,
but more so to the colorful vibrancy of this interpretive artwork.

“The 12 Encounters”
The thematic premise of ECLIPSE seeks to assess the implications of
identity, history, and cultural complexity within The 7th Athens Biennale, which offers an arena to interrogate many of
the ideas, queries, concerns, and desires that are frequently not platformed
within a Biennial format.&#38;nbsp;
As such, “The 12 Encounters” re-imagines, through 3D digital monuments, a series of hybrid socio-political, cosmological, cultural and historical converges between Greece and the African continent and it’s Diaspora; from antiquity to the contemporary and from the sacred to the irreverent. 


“The 12 Encounters”

are presented via augmented reality monuments that are geo-located throughout a variety of sites in downtown Athens and as a 360°  VR experience and fly-through 

animation 

of a fictional AfroGreek monument park.

“Liquid Geographies, Liquid Borders”

Collaboration w/ Dr.Mpho Matsipa, Wale Lawal, Dani Kyengo O’Neill


Liquid Geographies, Liquid Borders explores the aural and visual landscape of “Lagoon” as a spatial metaphor for complex, slippery exchanges that seek to delineate ownership, but also gestures towards a terrain of blending, branching and stratification of aquatic ecologies.&#38;nbsp;

This fluid, yet striated imaginary space that connects the Niger delta to other waterways emerges at the interface of aquatic ecologies and multiple figurations of Yemoja – the Yoruba goddess of the sea. Yemoja, being goddess of the sea, spread along with the diaspora, can now be considered the goddess of the Black Atlantic.As “mother of fishes” Yemoja is the final piece that connects the environment to sentience, and Yoruba cosmology to the impacts of oil. Taking crude oil-spills as a point of departure, the installation connects oil-fuelled trade and degradation with the lived spatialities of these polymorphic landscapes.

Description:

 This sonic experiment is a companion piece to “Liquid Geographies, Liquid Borders”. The project was conceived as a sonic experiment in the development of the aural and visual landscape of the Lagos lagoon.

Extending the second moment of Mad Horse City’s “Òmìnírá” (in Yoruba, means freedom), a project originally created by Wale Lawal and Olalekan Jeyifous, this collaboration with Mpho Matsipa (curator: African Mobilities) and Dani Kyengo O'Neill (composer) is an ongoing dialogue that explores the sonic connections amongst oil-fueled movements and the lived spatialities of these polyphonic landscapes. Taking crude oil-spills as a point of departure, they explore extractive landscapes of the Nigerian Delta through the:

1) Sonic textures and transmutations of oil; 

2) Òmìnírá as a microcosm of the asymmetries of power, and 

3) Post-oil futures.

“Championship Anti-Banners”
Race and Revolution: Still Separate – Still Unequal at Smack Mellon:
This exhibit looks at the enduring legacy of school segregation. Seventeen artists, most of them classroom teachers and one of them a high school student, share their talents and firsthand experiences of what schools in the 21st Century United States look like. 

As a challenge to my art-making practice I've taken a brief departure from the media I regularly work with in order to exploit the visual language of the High School Championship banner, a large tapestry which typically celebrates a school's varied athletic triumphs. Instead, I have created a series of "anti-banners" which present a few startling statistics on the testing, policing, and incarceration of Black and Latino students.

“[TFN] The Frozen Neighborhoods”


In an attempt to protect the environment and decelerate the impact of global climate change the Federal Government passed a series of legislations to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and carbon intensive consumption. The most severe was the establishment of a system of “Mobility Credits” wherein each person was afforded a finite amount of movement at the city, state, and national levels. This followed the logic that mobility (car travel, air travel and even mass transit) irreparably harms the environment. The law also provided that the credits would be transferable and sale-able. Very quickly an economy of trade in “Mobility Credits” emerged where the rich, who wish to maintain a discursive lifestyle, look to buy “Mobility Credits” and the poor, in need of a livable wage, became the sellers and to a certain extent, controllers of the trade market.


In summary, a system of personal mobility allowance created to reduce pollution was quickly corrupted by the American principles of capitalism resulting in “new” inequalities mapped along racial and ethnic lines. This project explores how this reality plays out in a network of communities within Brooklyn, NY called “The Frozen Neighborhoods” (TFN) and posits sustainable and advanced ecological technologies including rainwater harvesting, biofuel energy, freshwater marshes and idyllic gardens.
